About: MSC Software Corporation

MSC Software develops advanced simulation software technology that enables engineers to validate and optimize their designs through virtual prototypes. By leveraging the company’s solutions, customers across nearly every sector of manufacturing can enhance their design processes, reducing the need for physical prototypes and the traditional “build and test” approach. This shift not only streamlines product development but also drives innovation, allowing companies to bring higher quality products to market faster and more efficiently. With the company, manufacturers can confidently explore new design possibilities, improve product performance, and achieve their engineering goals with precision.

As a trusted partner, the company empowers companies to enhance product quality, reduce development time, and lower costs associated with the design and testing of manufactured goods. Our solutions precisely and reliably predict product behavior, enabling engineers to create more innovative designs—quickly and cost-effectively.

MSC Software‘s technology is relied upon by leading global manufacturers for a wide range of applications, including linear and nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA), acoustics, fluid-structure interaction (FSI), advanced multi-physics simulations, optimization, fatigue and durability testing, multi-body dynamics, and system-level simulations.

The company pioneered many of the technologies that are now essential to industry for analyzing and predicting stress, strain, vibration, motion, acoustics, and thermal behavior, particularly through our flagship product, MSC Nastran.

MSC Software Corporation is part of Hexagon, a global leader in digital solutions that drive productivity and quality across geospatial and industrial applications. Hexagon’s solutions combine sensors, software, domain expertise, and customer workflows into intelligent information ecosystems that deliver actionable insights. These solutions are employed across a broad range of critical industries.

Company History: MSC Software Corporation

Founded in 1963 under the name MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation (MSC), MSC Software began its journey as a pioneer in the field of structural analysis. The company developed its first structural analysis software, SADSAM (Structural Analysis by Digital Simulation of Analog Methods), marking the beginning of its deep involvement in advancing finite element analysis (FEA) technology. In its early years, MSC played a crucial role in the aerospace industry, contributing to the development of essential FEA tools.

In 1965, MSC was awarded a significant contract by NASA to commercialize Nastran (NASA Structural Analysis), the FEA software that became the cornerstone of the industry. MSC Nastran pioneered many of the CAE technologies that are now indispensable for analyzing and predicting stress, strain, vibration, dynamics, acoustics, and thermal behavior in engineering designs.

Over the decades, the company expanded its portfolio by developing or acquiring numerous other CAE tools, including Patran, Adams, Marc, Dytran, Fatigue, SimXpert, SimDesigner, SimManager, Easy5, Sinda, and Actran. The company has been committed to continuously advancing CAE technology, integrating capabilities from independent CAE tools into unified, multi-discipline solvers and user environments. These next-generation products enable engineers to enhance the reliability and accuracy of virtual prototypes by incorporating multi-physics and multi-discipline interactions.

In 2017, the company became part of Hexagon AB, a global leader in digital solutions that drive productivity and quality across geospatial and industrial applications. This acquisition has further strengthened MSC’s capabilities and broadened its reach in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

Today, MSC Software remains a leader in expanding simulation technology to mainstream engineering and product development. The company continues to innovate and provide cutting-edge solutions, helping industries like automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding, and electronics leverage the benefits of virtual prototyping and testing. MSC Software employs over 1,300 professionals across 22 countries, maintaining its position at the forefront of the CAE industry.
